Honoree Spotlight

News from Nepal

Our 2018 Hero Award Honoree Douglas Maclagan has been hard at work. A little over one year ago, we honored Douglas Maclagan at our 2018 Hero Awards Benefit for his work as the founder of Child Welfare Scheme. His organization provides education, healthcare and social opportunities for vulnerable children in Nepal.

The Project

With grant funding from World of Children, they recently completed construction of their brand-new student dormitory, guest house and community building to expand their FAB Hospitality School.

What Our Funding Provides

The school provides hotel and hospitality training to vulnerable children from underprivileged communities as a second chance to help them develop a sustainable livelihood.

How it Helps

This helps their families move out of the poverty cycle so they can regain confidence, dignity and respect in society and simultaneously contribute to the overall economy of Nepal—currently the 2nd poorest country in South Asia.

BECAUSE OF YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT, DOUGLAS HAS BEEN ABLE TO CHANGE THE FUTURE FOR YOUNG GIRLS LIKE PRAMLIA

Abandoned by her mother when she was four years old, and later by her father who moved to Malaysia for work, Pramila raised her younger brother and sister.

She was accepted to the FAB training program and began work as a housemaid to support her family. Pramila’s confidence and self-esteem have grown in a short period of time, and her instructors believe that her honesty, sincerity and hard work will offer her a bright future.
