This year, we are being recognized as an official charity of The San Francisco Marathon. Our team, Changemakers for Children, plans to raise more than $5,000 by race day on July 27 to ensure more children around the world have access to vital medical care, warm meals, and a loving environment. At 5:30 am on July 27, thousands of runners from all over the world will gather at the start line to run The San Francisco Marathon. But for some, it will be more than just a race.
It’ll be a chance to run for children who need our help.
“My family and I have been fortunate to not have any major terminal illnesses and have been blessed with many wonderful children that are expanding our family,” said Jon, one of the runners on our team. “I don’t have any of my own yet so I think running with your great team is a way for me to help those who are less fortunate.”
Every mile our team runs and every penny they raise help children like Alex and Maverick (pictured above), two young boys from Ecuador who are congenital amputees. With the help of 2013 Health Honoree C. Mead Welles and his nonprofit, A Leg To Stand On, both Alex and Maverick were fitted with prosthetic legs. Now, they’re not just walking, but running in their very first 5k race.
As of today (May 2), our fantastic team of runners has already raised $840. With your help, we can reach our goal of $5,000 by July 27 so children like Alex and Maverick have the opportunity to walk, run and thrive. Help us reach our goal >>
