Can I nominate an organization for an Award?
No. The World of Children Awards were established to honor an individual or
group of individuals who devote their lives to children. The Awards are
not granted to organizations. But
the stipends awarded must go to a sustainable organization.
Can I nominate someone who is no longer living, in memory of his or her work?
No. The Awards are not given posthumously.
Can I nominate myself?
Yes. You can nominate yourself, however, you must include at least two
references as noted on the Nomination Form.
Can I nominate someone who was nominated previously?
Yes. There is no limit to the number of times a person can be nominated, unless
that person won the World of Children Award previously. (An Award recipient
cannot be nominated again.)
Can I nominate someone who has
already been nominated this year by someone else?
Yes. However, only one nomination will be reviewed. The World of Children
retains the right to select which Nomination Form/application to use, solely at
its discretion.
How do I determine which Award category to place a nomination?
The Awards are divided into three distinct categories. The WOC Health Award is
for those providing services specifically in the fields of health, medicine and
pediatric sciences. The Humanitarian Award is specifically for the education
the social and humanitarian services. The Founder's Award is specifically for a
young person under the age of 21 who has provided exceptional services/support
to other children. Please make your selection based on the preponderance of
work your nominee has conducted for children.
Is my nomination information saved as I move throughout the online form?
Yes. As you move throughout the online form, your information entered is saved
automatically, allowing you to freely enter, exit and edit the Nomination Form
as many times as you wish prior to submitting your nomination.
What is an Honoree? (Finalist)
World of Children, Inc. deliberately refers to the Award finalists as Honorees.
As a group of winners, the Honorees are brought to the United States by World
of Children, Inc. to celebrate their work, lives and organizations.
What is the process in choosing Honorees/Finalists?
Each year, the World of Children National Selection Committee reviews all of
the submitted nominations and selects several individuals as Honorees. The
World of Children International Advisory Council then reviews the nominations
of the Honorees. The World of Children Governing Board has the final
determination as to who the Award recipients will be. The Honorees are brought
to the United States, for the World of Children celebration where they are
recognized for their outstanding devotion to children. One Honoree will win the
WOC Health Children's Care Award, one Honoree will win the WOC Humanitarian
Award and one young person will receive the Founder's Award. All Honorees must
pass an independent investigative review to substantiate their work.
When will I be notified if my nominee is chosen as an Honoree?
The National Selection Committee meets in early summer to select the World of
Children Honorees. Soon after that you will be notified.
When and where will the Honorees be recognized?
In November of 2007, World of Children will gather all of the Honorees together
in New York City for an Award ceremony and presentation of the two separate
$50,000 Awards and two $15,000 Founder's Awards. Honorees are expected to
participate in all related events during this time.
Is it appropriate to submit materials previously used for grant applications?
No. It is not appropriate to send or submit anything other than your answers to
the specific questions asked in the Nomination Form. We are looking for quality
submissions and not a huge volume of materials to support the nomination.
How are funds disbursed?
While WOC honors individuals whose work on behalf of children has been
extraordinary, all funds are disbursed to the charitable endeavors of the
honorees.
